A crash in the 12000 block of Green Pond Highway the morning of Jan. 14 sent two people to the hospital. Both vehicles were traveling south on Green Pond Highway, north of Ivenia Brown Drive, at about 11 a.m. when a Jaguar struck the rear of a Hyundal minivan, causing it to flip over at least twice. The minivan then collided with a railroad crossing arm, knocking it over onto the railroad tracks. The Jaguar continued south, crossed the railroad tracks and drove under a container trailer parked in front of a business and then hit a power pole. When firefighter-paramedics arrived at the scene, both drivers were complaining of various non-life-threatening injuries. The 19-year-old driver of the Jaguar and the 65-year-old driver of the minivan were both transported to Colleton Medical Center. The CSX Railroad was notified and stopped all rail traffic until an inspection team could evaluate the crossing and make repairs to the crossing arm device. The South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the crash.
