WALTERBORO — Mr. Frederick Drayfus Carter, age 86, of Walterboro, entered into rest early Saturday morning, January 7, 2016, at the Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, January 11, 2017, from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 7345 Jefferies Highway, Walterboro. The Reverend David Jackson and The Reverend Paul Hill officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 12 Noon that afternoon in the church sanctuary.
Born January 1, 1931, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Herbert Alexander Carter and the late Jessie Lucille Carter Carter; having made Walterboro his home for the past seventy-nine years. He served our country faithfully in the United States Army and retired after thirty-five years of faithful service as a Power Operator from the Savannah River Plant in Aiken. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Walterboro where he has served as a Music Director, Deacon, and Sunday School Teacher.
Surviving are: his wife of fifty-seven years, Mrs. Mary Ellen Wolfe Carter; a daughter, Belinda C. Bailey of Walterboro; a son, Jerome D. Carter and his wife Rose of Walterboro; a brother, Willie Ray Carter of Huntsville, Alabama; five grandchildren, Chastity B. Ginn, Joseph Bailey, Casey Carter, Nickolas Carter, and Dayton Carter; and two great grandchildren, Austin and Wesley Ginn and their father, Nick Ginn.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 7345 Jefferies Highway, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
