OHIO — Rev. Charles Edward Castles, a resident of Amelia, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 66, grew up in Greenville, SC, and was a long-time resident of the Charleston area.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Debra (Debbie) Lynn Castles; son, Charles Edward Castles II and wife Lisa of Cincinnati, OH; daughter, Jennifer Lynn Atchley and husband Erech of Knoxville, TN; son, Eric Scott Castles of Charleston, SC; and daughter, Stephanie Anne Castles of Cincinnati; granddaughter, Natalie Lynn Atchley of Knoxville; and grandson, Ethan William Atchley of Knoxville. He is also survived by his siblings: John Castles and wife Jan of Greenville, SC; Miriam Mills and husband Joe of Acworth, GA; Terry Castles and wife Sherry of Macon, GA; Lamar Castles and wife P.J. of Greenville, NC; and Mary Appleton and husband Tim of Simpsonville, SC; eight nephews, four nieces, five great-nephews, and eight great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Lindsay and Olive Carrol Brown Castles.
Charles received a B.S. degree from the University of South Carolina and a M.Div. from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was an ordained Southern Baptist minister and pastored Calvary Baptist Church in Moncks Corner, SC, and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Walterboro, SC. He was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Johns Island, SC. He also owned Charleston Shuttle Services, LLC.
Visitation will be on Saturday, December 31, 2016, at First Baptist Church of Simpsonville, 3 Hedge Street, Simpsonville, SC 29681 from Noon to 2 PM, followed by the funeral service conducted by Rev. Henry Simmons of Moncks Corner and Rev. Jesse Powers of Charleston. His eight nephews will serve as pallbearers. Everyone is invited to attend a Celebration of Life dinner immediately following the service. Interment will be on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at 3 PM in Pierce Township Cemetery in Cincinnati. Rev. Henry Simmons will officiate.
