Care of Herndon Funeral Chapels and Crematory

EHRHARDT — Mrs. Jeannie Martin Priester, age 83, of Broxton Bridge Road in Ehrhardt, entered into eternal rest on Christmas Eve while surrounded by her loving family at Hospice of Charleston in Mount Pleasant.  She was the loving wife of fifty-seven years to the late Mr.  William Leon Priester at the time of his death in 2014.

Funeral services were conducted 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, December 27, 2016, at Ehrhardt Baptist Church, 427 Allen Street, Ehrhardt, the Reverend Kelly Shanks officiating.  Interment followed at the family plot in Ehrhardt Cemetery.

A daughter of the late James Samuel Martin, Sr. and the late Willie Mae Walling Martin Bowers, she was born March 18, 1933, in Colleton County, having made Ehrhardt her home for the past fifty-six years.  She retired from the United States Postal Service in Bamberg following a long and dedicated career as a clerk in Bamberg, having during her tenure served many of the other surrounding areas.  A longtime member of Ehrhardt Baptist Church, she was a member of the Social Committee and Adult Sunday School Class; as well as having served in many aspects of the church’s work.  Jeannie’s greatest love and priority in life was her family.  She devoted herself to the needs of her husband and children whom she adored.  She was also a great southern cook, who enjoyed canning and was famous in her own way for her German Chocolate Cake.

Surviving are: Mr. and Mrs. Rusty (Paula) Ulmer of Irmo, Mr. and Mrs. Michael (Myra) Crosby of Ruffin, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Janice) Wrightenberry of Bamberg, Mr. and Mrs. William Leon (Julie) Priester, Jr. (Bill) of Bamberg, Mr. and Mrs. Leo (Lynda) Warren of Williams; ten grandchildren, Ryan Ulmer of Iva, Blake Ulmer of Irmo, Mr. and Mrs. Alton (Ashlyn Crosby) Smith of Varnville, Jeremy Crosby of Ruffin, Mr. and Mrs. Will (Dr. Anna Marie Wrightenberry)Evans of Williams, Rob Wrightenberry of Bamberg, Mr. and Mrs. Dillon (Amber) Walling of Bamberg, Will Priester of Bamberg, Caroline Warren and Connor Warren of Williams; and five great-grandchildren, Luke Smith and Jack Smith of Varnville, Kayleigh Ulmer of Irmo, and Anna Cate and Worth Evans of Williams.  She is also survived by a brother, Ned Martin of Lodge; and three sisters, Gloria Smith of Ehrhardt, Sandy Cook of Hampton, and June Long of Hampton.   She was preceded in death by three siblings, Rosa Lee Fowler, Samuel Martin, and Doris Fralix.

In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to the following: Ehrhardt Baptist Church, Post Office Box 267, Ehrhardt, South Carolina 29081; or to, Ehrhardt Cemetery Fund, care of Mickie Murden, 6293 Ehrhardt Road, Ehrhardt, South Carolina 29081.
