Update: Pedestrian killed on Bells Highway | News | The Press and Standard

A 60-year-old Walterboro man became the county’s 26th traffic fatality the evening of Nov. 18 when he was struck by a motor vehicle while attempting to cross Bells Highway at the Mount Carmel Road intersection.
Robert Thomas McCready, 60, of Walterboro, was pronounced dead at the Emergency Department of the Colleton Medical Center Friday at 8:43 p.m.
According to witness reports, McCready stepped into the roadway Nov. 18 at about 6:45 p.m.  and narrowly missed being struck by a westbound car, only to be hit by a westbound Chevrolet Tahoe.
A Colleton County Fire-Rescue ambulance drove up on the scene about a minute after the accident and found McCready unconscious in the roadway, suffering from multiple injuries. He was treated at the scene and transported to the Emergency Department of Colleton Medical Center.
A cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy ordered by Colleton County Deputy Coroner Richard Carter.
Members of the Walterboro Police Department investigated the accident.
