Walterboro man killed in Charleston County | News | The Press and Standard

A 26-year-old Walterboro man was killed Saturday night in a shooting incident in Adams Run in Charleston County.

Wayne Keith Bennett, 26, of Ordell Court, Walterboro, died at Medical University of South Carolina facilities in Charleston a short time after being transported there by ambulance.

Preliminary information from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies were dispatched to Willtown Road Saturday shortly after 6 p.m. to investigate a report of gunshots.

When deputies arrived in the area, they found a truck which had left the roadway and struck a tree. On closer examination, deputies found several bullet holes in the truck’s body.

No one was in the truck when deputies arrived.

They learned that someone had removed Bennett from the truck and taken him to the nearby St. Paul’s Fire Department station on Route 162.

Paramedics based at the station then transported Bennett to MUSC.

According to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, no suspects have been identified in the shooting death and no motive has been uncovered.
