Lady Cougars face Darlington in home playoff berth | Sports | The Press and Standard

The Colleton County Lady Cougar Volleyball team finished its regular season schedule last week, earning region wins against Beaufort, Berkeley, Stall and Cane Bay. Finishing 9-9 overall and 7-3 in region play, Colleton County earned a spot in the SCHSL Lower-State playoffs set to begin Thursday Oct. 27. As of press time, the likely scenario was a 6 p.m. home match pitting the Lady Cougars (No. 2 seed) against Darlington (No. 3 seed).
In last week’s action against Berkeley, held Tuesday Oct. 19, the Lady Cougars earned a region win in a best-of-three series 25-21 (loss), 25-19 (win) and 25-17 (win). Alyssa Baker had eight kills in the game, followed by Dakari Gant with five. Brittney Risher led the defense with nine digs. Amiyah Robinson and Baker both had three digs.
Colleton County earned its second region win of the week against Beaufort in a two-match sweep 25-14 and 25-23. Dakari Gant had six kills, followed by Baker with five of her own.
On a roll, the Lady Cougars defeated region foe Cane Bay on Thursday Oct. 20 in three sets 25-21 (win), 25-17 (loss) and 25-13 (win). Michelle Holmes had 10 kills on the night, while Baker had nine and Gant had eight. Risher had 10 digs in the game and Samantha Calcutt had nine.
In front of a large crowd for Senior Night, Colleton County easily defeated Stall in two matches 25-7 and 25-1. Holmes had six kills in the game, while Robinson and Amy Petrolawicz each had two digs. Victoria Payne and Baker each had three kills for the Lady Cougars, while Risher and Baker both had five digs on defense.
