When it came time for the 54-year-old man arrested on multiple sexual exploitation charges by the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office to appear for a bond hearing, he learned that an additional charge had been filed.
Late last week, the sheriff’s office released information on the arrest of Steven Kenneth Peer, 54, on 17 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor on Sept. 21.
At the bond hearing, an 18th charge — voyeurism — was added to the list. According to court records, Peer was released from the detention center after posting a $70,000 surety bond.
The voyeurism charge was filed against Peer after investigators learned that his iPad contained nude photos of an adult woman, allegedly taken by Peer while the woman was asleep.
The alleged offenses occurred while Peer was living on Red Oak Road in Cottageville. Court records on the charges listed two addresses for Peer in Walterboro and Summerville.
Peer’s arrest on Sept. 21 was the result of a six-week investigation by the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office began its investigation into Peer in late July after being informed that he allegedly had photographs and video of underage girls on his iPad.
Peer allegedly downloaded the child pornography from the internet.
The South Carolina Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force will assist in prosecuting the cases.
