The Lady Hawk volleyball team split region matches last week against Hilton Head Christian and John Paul II. Colleton Prep is 6-6 overall and 3-5 in region play, with four conference games remaining.
Against Hilton head Christian on Monday Sept. 19, the Lady Hawks lost in three straight sets 25-16, 25-16 and 25-12. Langley Harter recorded five kills and Weslin Jones had six aces to lead the Lady Hawks.
Colleton Prep had a region win against John Paul II Thursday Sept. 22 at home. The Lady Hawks played five sets to earn the victory 26-24 (win), 25-19 (loss), 25-18 (loss), 25-23 (win) and 15-12 (win).
Senior Haley Wilson recorded eight kills and 11 assists in the match. Weslin Jones added five kills and six aces to the effort, while Penelope Tuten had six kills and two aces. Ella Nolte had eight kills and four aces in the game and Patricia Utsey had two aces and one kill. Hanna Drawdy was 13-13 in serving with two recorded kills.
Coach Ashley Finney was pleased with the Lady Hawks performance in the win over the Golden Warriors.
“We had to play John Paul without two starters,” said Finney. “We have one player out for two weeks with a concussion. I am really proud of how the girls rose to the occasion and came out on top. We were forced to play with a straight-6 line-up, meaning Weslin was moved from libero to the outside hitter position.”
The Lady Hawks will have a busy week with three matches on the calendar. They hosted Patrick Henry on Monday Sept. 26, traveled to Thomas Heyward on Tuesday Sept. 27 and will take on St. Andrews on the road on Thursday Sept. 29.
