The Colleton County Volleyball team continues to work toward its goal of attaining a spot in the region 8-AAAA playoffs. Sitting at 5-7 overall and 3-2 in region competition, the Lady Cougars will head into the second half of their region schedule beginning this week.
In a tri-match held Tuesday Sept. 6, the Lady Cougars hosted region opponents Beaufort and Cane Bay. Against the Eagles, Colleton County lost 1-2 in the best of three series 25-16 (loss), 25-19 (win) and 25-23 (loss). Alyssa Baker led the offensive attack with seven kills and Michele Holmes had six of her own. Brittney Risher had 18 digs in the game.
Against the Cobras, the Lady Cougars earned their first region win in two sets 25-17 and 25-18. Dakari Gant led with four kills and Risher led the defensive effort with five digs.
A region match against Berkeley held Thursday Sept. 8 allowed the Lady Cougars their second region win in three straight sets 25-17, 25-14 and 25-14. Baker led the offensive surge with 10 kills. Ashlyn Harley recorded five kills, while Michele Holmes and Dakari Gant each had four. Brittney Risher had 17 digs in the game and Faith Allen had 11.
In an away region match against Stall held Tuesday Sept. 13, the Lady Cougars got the win in straight sets 25-11, 25-3 and 25-8. Samantha Calcutt, Amiyah Robinson and Faith Allen each had three digs in the win over Stall. Alyssa Baker led the offensive attack with six kills, while Victoria Payne had four.
Hosting Hilton Head on Thursday Sept. 15, Colleton County fell 1-2 against the Seahawks 25-15 (loss), 25-22 (win) and 25-13 (loss). Gant led with six kills on offense and Risher had 13 digs on defense.
The Lady Cougars earned a non-region win against Goose Creek on Thursday Sept. 22 at home in three straight sets 25-23, 25-23 and 25-20. Alyssa Baker had 10 kills in the match. Amy Petrolawicz recorded four and Samantha Calcutt had three. Brittney Risher had 11 digs and Faith Allen had 10 of her own.
Colleton County will travel to non-region opponent Goose Creek on Tuesday Sept. 27 and to Beaufort for a region tri-match against the Eagles and the Cane Bay Cobras on Tuesday Oct.4.
