Band Classic held Saturday | News | The Press and Standard

Over 2,500 band fans attended the 39th annual Walterboro Band Classic this past Saturday Sept. 24 at the Colleton County High School Stadium.
Area bands dealt with warm and muggy conditions.  The Band of Blue Booster club reported a good turnout that ended the day with the home stands packed and the away stands full with visiting bands.
The Band of Blue Booster Club hosted the annual event for the 39th consecutive year.  Tom Finigan, director of the Band of Blue said: “Thank you to all of the parents, friend and family that came out and made Saturday a HUGE success!  The community support for this event is outstanding year after year.”
The annual event had 13 bands from all over the Lowcountry.  Performing bands included Manning, Williston-Elko, Lake Marion, Bamberg-Ehrhardt, Waccamaw, Barnwell, Bluffton, Cane Bay, West Florence, Effingham County, West Ashley, Lugoff-Elgin high schools, as well as the Colleton County Band of Blue.
Division winners were:
Effingham County (GA) – Div. 4
Bluffton – Div. 3
Waccamaw – Div. 2
Bamberg – Ehrhardt – Div. 1
2016 WBC Judges were: Mike Foxworth, Canton, Ga., Music Performance (Ensemble); 
Matt Wofford, Duncan, Music Individual (Field);
Robert Wertz, Camden, Music Effect; 
Bob Buckner, Waynesville, NC, Visual Performance (Ensemble); 
Andy Buckner, Raleigh, NC, Visual Individual (Field);
Jay Poole, Greensboro, NC, Visual Effect.
The Band of Blue performed as the host band and did not compete.
The Band of Blue will perform and compete next week at Charleston Southern University at the Wando High School Lowcountry Invitational. The Band of Blue performs at 6:45 p.m.
