A collision between a car and a tractor-trailer the afternoon of Aug. 24 sent a woman to Colleton Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Colleton County Fire-Rescue were dispatched to the northbound lanes of I-95 near the 40-mile marker about 4:15 p.m. Firefighter-paramedics found the Chevrolet Impala in the breakdown lane. The driver’s side had suffered heavy damage and the injured woman was trapped in the vehicle. The Kenworth truck received substantial damage to the chassis. Responders began treating the woman’s injuries while other Fire-Rescue personnel began the process of extricating the woman from the vehicle. After being freed from the vehicle, the woman was transported to Colleton Medical Center’s Emergency Department. The truck driver was not injured. A third car was also reportedly involved in the accident, but no one in that vehicle was injured.
