Local theatre company Coastal Stage Productions, CSP, which had audiences rolling with the gang from “Daddy’s Dyin’-Who’s Got the Will?” this past June, returns to The Colleton Center (Hampton Street Auditorium) with the timeless Southern comedy/drama “Steel Magnolias.”

“If you can’t find anything good to say about anybody, come sit by me.”  These words of wisdom sum up Robert Harling’s 1987 off-Broadway sensation and subsequent smash film   “Steel Magnolias.”  Set in a beauty parlor in Southern Louisiana, “Steel Magnolias” illustrates how the lives of six distinctly different women interweave via the small town gossip that shadows the unending cycle of birth, marriage and death. “I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a bad mood for 40 years!” Filled with hilarious Southern quips and humorously revealing verbal confrontations, “Steel Magnolias” draws on the town’s underlying strength and love which gives the play, and its characters, the special quality to make them truly touching, funny and marvelous company in good times and in bad.

This colorful cast is a wonderful combination of new and returning CSP members: Toye Hickman is the sassy town beautician Truvy, and her eccentric salon side-kick is played by Lyndsay Malprhus.  Connie Dudek-Hoskins plays Clairee the town’s wealthy widow and co-hort to the sharp tongued Ouiser Boudreaux, played by CSP newcomer Margy Oehlert.  Other new faces to the CSP family are Jean White who portrays the charismatic and beloved daughter Shelby to M’Lynn the valiant, strong willed and determined mother played by Coby Turner.

Coastal Stage Productions is delighted to have director Terri Hsu and co-director Mark Erickson at the helm of this brilliant production.  Hsu and Erickson are both very talented director/actors on the Lowcountry theatre scene and have completed many successful projects.

Coastal Stage Productions, CSP, is a traveling theatre company based in Ridgeland. This production has been cast with and directed by talented local actors from Beaufort County and Savannah, Ga.
