A Maysville, S.C. man was sent to prison when he appeared in Colleton County General Sessions Court this week.
Herbert Tyrone Benjamin, 19, pled guilty to two counts of common law robbery and a single count of second-degree assault and battery when he appeared before visiting judge Deadra L. Jefferson.
After accepting Benjamin’s plea, Jefferson sentenced him to consecutive 13-year prison terms on the common law robbery charges and added a consecutive three-year term on the assault and battery charge.
The assault and battery charge and one of the common law robbery charges stemmed from Benjamin’s robbery of the Circle C Express at 11089 Augusta Highway on Nov. 22, 2015.
In the Circle C Express incident Benjamin allegedly jumped the counter, slapped the clerk’s face and ordered her to open the cash register. He fled with cash from the register and a carton of cigarettes.
The second robbery charge stems from his robbery of The Loop gas station at 2227 North Jefferies Highway on Nov. 23, 2015.
At The Loop station, Benjamin allegedly pulled a handgun and demanded money. After receiving a large amount of money, he fled.
Benjamin was arrested a few days after the robberies. He was taken into custody at the Country Hearth Motel in St. George by members of the St. George Police Department.
