The Carolina Cougars 17U baseball team recently competed in the Dynamic World Championships held at the University of North Carolina. The Cougars went 0-3-1 in the tournament, which featured some of the top baseball talent in the southeast.
In game one, Elite Training Academy defeated the Carolina Cougars 10-6 across five innings, despite the strong performance of Josh Craven on the mound. Craven held the Academy hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one. The bottom of the first saw the Cougars plate five runs when Casyn Dobson doubled, scoring Hiott and Craven. Dobson and Bryan then scored on sacrifices by Lane Lee and Jackson Morelli. The Academy came back, thanks to a fourth inning rally that saw seven runs cross the plate. They then tacked on two more in the fifth.
Against Stealin’ Home in game two, the Cougars saw a no-decision in a 2-2 tied game. Ethan Bryan on the mound baffled Stealin’ Home, striking out eight batters. He allowed one earned run on two hits and five walks over four innings. The Cougars struck out six times at the plate.
The Cougars were shut out in a 10-0 no-hitter by the Megastars in game three and dropped an 8-0 shutout against Evoshield Coastal to be eliminated and end their summer travel season.
The Carolina Cougars roster included Kaleb Gibson, Alan Grym, Ethan Bryan, Lucas Bell, Henry Gibson, Josh Craven, Alex Jones, Casyn Dobson, Aaron Fryar, Lane Lee, Tristen Hiott and Jackson Morelli. The Cougars are coached by Vince Connor.
