Willis Dobison, 2013 Colleton County High School graduate and rising senior at Limestone College, has had a busy summer. In fact, that is likely an understatement, because when it comes to the game of baseball, Dobison is always working hard and striving to be better.
This past weekend, July 16-17, his hard work paid-off when he was selected to represent his summer league team, the Piedmont Pride, on the 2016 Southern Collegiate Baseball League All-Star team.
Dobison was one of eight Pride players chosen to represent the Southern Collegiate Baseball League (SCBL) in the round-robin series at Georgia Gwinnett College in Atlanta versus the Sunbelt and Florida Collegiate Leagues. The two-day event began Saturday with a pro-style workout in front of MLB (Major League Baseball) scouts. Following the showcase, the leagues then squared-off for the All-Star games. According to a Pride press release, Head Coach Joe Hudak was pleased with the All-Star selections saying, “I think All-Stars are a great way to reward players who have performed well.”
The Piedmont Pride, where Dobison found his summer home, is established and sponsored by the Piedmont Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The team is headquartered in Rock Hill, where they play a 42-game summer schedule. Dobison established a 3-0 record so far this summer, with four saves and a 1.15 ERA.
In the SCBL, the Pride sits in first place with a 26-6 record. In league pitching stats over the last 30 days, Dobison is second with a 1.47 ERA. He pitched 18.1 innings during this time frame, collecting 24 strikeouts and allowing just three earned runs.
At Limestone last season, Dobison pitched 23.1 innings, earning a 1-1 record, with a 3.86 ERA.  He had 21 strikeouts to his credit. Prior to his transfer to Limestone, he made 15 appearances as a sophomore and 13 during his freshman year with the USC Beaufort Sand Sharks.
Playing four years of varsity baseball for Colleton County, Dobison was recognized as All-Region, MVP (2013), Rookie-of-Year and Ace Pitcher awards. He went 8-1 during his senior year and led the team in strikeouts, innings pitched and ERA.
Dobison is majoring in physical education at Limestone. He is the son of Tarah and Willis Dobison Sr. of Walterboro.
