Jane Brewer, USC Salkehatchie Athletics Director and Associate Dean for Student Affairs, happily added an additional role to her many responsibilities last week.
Brewer was selected as assistant women’s director for athletics for Region X during the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region X summer meeting held July 13 in Raleigh, N.C. Brewer will join the commissioner and three other volunteer officers to help govern athletics in Region X, which consists of all junior colleges in South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.
Brewer’s selection to the voluntary officer’s position was based on her participation in Region X as an athletic director and as an advocate and supporter for female athletes.
“I am so appreciative of Region X Commissioner, Lind Hartsell, and the athletic directors within Region X, for having such confidence in me,” said Brewer. “For the six-plus years I have been the AD at USC Salk, they have made me feel so welcome and have been great resources for me. For them to have faith in me to represent the region in the capacity is quite a compliment. As athletic director, I will continue to represent USC Salk’s interests, while utilizing the many things that makes Salk so special, to help Region X remain the most-dynamic and growing region within the NJCAA.”
Dr. Ann Carmichael, dean of the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie, made the following statement in regard to Brewer’s appointment: “Jane does an outstanding job as our athletic director. She is a quick study who has earned the respect of her fellow ADs in the region. Jane will represent the NJCAA well in this new additional role.”
