The Walterboro American Coach Pitch All-Star team, coached by Shane Douglas, was eliminated from competition on Sunday afternoon in Bluffton after going 2-2 in the tournament.
In game one, played Thursday June 16, the Americans easily defeated Ridgeland’s All-Star team, 20-6. Following a rain-out on Friday evening, the Walterboro Americans faced the Hilton Head Nationals for game two, losing 17-2 in a mercy-rule game. Later that evening, the Americans won 16-6 against the Bluffton Nationals in an elimination game.
On Sunday, the Walterboro team was eliminated following a 12-10 hard-fought loss against the Bluffton Americans. “We fell behind 7-0 in the first inning,” said Bill Kinard, assistant coach of the Americans. “We managed to fight back and had a chance to win it. I was really encouraged with the effort displayed by our team in the come-back effort, especially when the odds were against us.”
Leading hitters for the Walterboro Americans were Tanner Caldwell, Greyson Smoak, Lee Adams, Bryce Kinard, Collin Hiers and Alejandro Marin. The defense was led by Xavier Green and Hiers. Assistant Coach Bill Kinard praised the hustle of Jacob Singleton during the All-Star tournament.
