The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation into a June 26 incident that sent a 23-year-old Jacksonboro man to the hospital for treatment.
On June 26 at approximately 1:50 p.m., members of the sheriff’s office and Colleton County Fire-Rescue were dispatched to the Kangaroo Gas station at 16273 ACE Basin Parkway for a gunshot victim.
Deputies, assisted by officers from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, quickly cleared the scene and turned the gunshot victim over to firefighter-paramedics for treatment of a single gunshot wound to the face.
The male was on the ground near the front door of the establishment. He had been shot in the cheek.
The victim, conscious and able to talk, told deputies that he and another male were standing near his vehicle on Clinic Drive, near the unmanned fire station, when he heard the gunshot that caused his injury and saw a blue Dodge pickup truck fleeing the area. Deputies searching Clinic Drive found a spent 9mm shell in the roadway. An attempt to locate the pickup truck was unsuccessful.
The victim then made his way three blocks to the service station to seek medical assistance.
After receiving treatment at the scene, a Colleton County Fire-Rescue ambulance transported him to the Trauma Center at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
