The Walterboro National Minors were eliminated from District 8 All-Star competition on Wednesday June 22 at the ACE Basin Sports Complex. The Minors went 1-2 in the tournament following its 14-0 shut-out over Jasper County on just 55 pitches in the opening game.
On Tuesday June 21, the Minors lost 14-4 in a shortened game against Hilton Head. Three Walterboro pitchers combined in the loss – Lavondre Edwards, Jim Bob Hadwin and Jeb Bootle.
The offensive highlight of the game came from Jabari Grant in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded and down by five runs, Grant sent a hard hit shot through the left side for a three-RBI stand-up triple. He then stole home to make it a 5-4 ballgame.
The loss against Hilton Head moved Walterboro into the losers’ bracket, where they faced the Bluffton Americans in an elimination game Wednesday evening. Three Walterboro pitchers worked six strong innings before Bluffton managed to put the game away, 13-3.
Hadwin started on the hill for Walterboro, giving way to Desmond Brown in middle relief. Bootle closed the game for the Minors.
