The Carolina Connection 12U baseball team competed in the USSSA South Carolina Open State Championships at the ACE Basin Sports Complex last weekend. The Connection, a newly formed team, would go 0-4 over the weekend.
On Saturday morning, the Connection was shutout 27-0 against the Hilton Head All-Stars. In game two against the Mt. Pleasant Lumber Yard, they lost 18-1. “We came out playing flat and just could not overcome the slow start,” said head coach Lonnie Snelgrove.
The Connection faced the Georgia Undertow on Sunday morning, losing 8-0. They faced another local team, the 12U Swampfoxes, in the consolation game, losing 12-2. “We just couldn’t find our bats to keep us in the ball game,” said Snelgrove. “Against the Swampfoxes, we came up short to a very well disciplined team.”
Gaining valuable experience on the mound this weekend were Matthew Hooker, Warren Hunter, Peyton Bryan, Josh Caldwell, Julian Snelgrove and West Brown.
“All these fellows pitched very well,” said Snelgrove “We also made some great plays this weekend on deep fly ***** in the outfield and turned some double plays on the infield.”
The Connection’s roster includes: West Brown, Josh Caldwell, Cohen Crosby, Warren Hunter, Julian Snelgrove, Peyton Bryan, Matthew Hooker, Parker Craven, John Bunch, Wyatt Drew and Beau High. Snelgrove is assisted by coaches Brent Hunter and Randy Caldwell.
