The Walterboro Dixie Angels were eliminated following a 7-4 loss against Bluffton in the decision game of the X-Play District All-Star Tournament held Tuesday June 21 at the ACE Basin Sports Complex. The Angels split a double-header against Bluffton the previous evening to force the decision game with an 8-7 come-from-behind win in game one and a 12-2 loss in game two.
In the Tuesday’s game, Shandi Brown started for Walterboro in the circle, striking out four and issuing eight walks. Sidney Bailey pitched the final two innings, holding Bluffton scoreless in the fourth and allowing two runs in the fifth. MaKayla Voss led the offensive effort with two hits and crossed home plate twice in the game. Christasia Holmes and Jordan Slocum also scored in the contest.
Coach John Voss, serving as the head coach for the Angels, was proud of his team’s effort in the two-team X-Play bracket. “I was very excited to coach All-Stars,” said Voss. “I hate we came up short, but I am very proud of all the hard work my girls gave at practice and in every game. I underestimated our competition a little, but we should have handled them. We had a couple of errors and didn’t capitalize when we had runners on base. The girls played hard and I had a blast coaching them. Win or lose, these girls put in strong work and made me a better coach.”
