The Lowcountry Lightning 10U participated in the WFC Spring Fling in Moncks Corner recently and captured the championship after playing seven games in the two-day tournament.
The Lightning shutout the Diamondbacks 13-0 in the first game of round-robin play. They then went on to defeat their next three opponents of the day: the Lowcountry Legends (9-2), the S.C. Hurricanes (12-3) and the Lady Bullets.
On Sunday, the 10U team manufactured three wins to seal the championship, winning 11-10 in extra-innings against the S.C. Hurricanes, shutting out the Lowcountry Legends (11-0) and winning a rematch with the Legends (10-5).
“We had awesome weekend,” said Coach John Voss. “Our pitching and hitting was the best I’ve seen from our girls as a whole. It would be hard to pick one young lady to talk about, because they all did outstanding. We scored over 45 runs Saturday and only allowed five to score against us. On Sunday, we faced a tough game against the Hurricanes, but managed a win following extra innings. Thanks to our bats staying hot and our pitching remaining strong, we went undefeated and won the tournament. It is a great feeling as a coach to watch these young ladies having fun and being successful doing what they love.”
