If the junior varsity team is considered a gauge for the future success of the program, Colleton Prep Baseball will be “sitting pretty” for a number of years.
The JV War Hawks won 11 games straight before losing to a much older Pinewood Prep team to finish the season at 12-2. Along the way, they outscored their opponents 153-33.
In the final game of the season, Colleton Prep shut out Dorchester Academy 10-0 in five innings. Kyle Hooker earned the win in the mercy-rule game, surrendering one hit and notching 11 strikeouts.
Leading the War Hawks offensively were Dawson Sweat, Dylan Kinard, Brandon Polk and Brad Strickland.
Leading hitters for CPA were Dawson Sweat (.462), Pete Peters (.333) and Dylan Kinard (.333).
Kyle Hooker (1.20 ERA) and Brad Strickland (2.10 ERA) were the top guns for the JV team on the hill.
“We started the season with two goals: win more than we lose and win a state championship in the next four years,” said Bill Kinard. “Our strength this year was pitching. But we also had solid defense and timely two-out hitting. Overall, it was a good season. We got better in some areas and I think we learned the areas where we need to get better.”
