Colleton County High School, in conjunction with SC GEAR UP, hosted College Decision Day for the Class of 2017 Wednesday May 18.
The purpose of Decision Day is to allow rising seniors the opportunity to make an early decision to attend a college of their choice. It is also geared toward helping the undecided to start thinking about the process and understanding the opportunities which both two- and four-year institutions offer.
In response to First Lady Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher Initiative which promotes a College Signing Day for graduating seniors, the junior class at CCHS recently celebrated and honored the college choices of the Class of 2016.
Vernessa Brooks and Sonya Stephens, graduation coaches for CCHS, have been working diligently with the Class of 2017 to educate them on opportunities for a post-secondary education.
“The students are excited about making an informed college decision and signing their names on the wall in acknowledgement of their commitment to attend a college of their choice,” stated Brooks. “The college recruiters were engaged with the students throughout the day. It was a great start for them to gain first-hand information about several participating colleges.”
The following colleges were represented during the Colleton County High School College Decision Day: Allen University, College of Charleston, Charleston Southern University, Technical College of the Lowcountry and University of South Carolina-Beaufort.
“At the end of the day, it was a sigh of success and a job well done toward the class of 2017 graduating on point,” said Brooks.
