Colleton native wows crowd at senior recital | News | The Press and Standard

Josh Avant, former Colleton Prep graduate and senior vocal performance major at the College of Charleston, performed his senior recital on Sunday April 17 at Simons Center for the Arts in downtown Charleston. Avant, a tenor, was accompanied by College of Charleston School of the Arts faculty member Robin Zemp on piano. Josh Avant Tenor josh avant 4-21-16 - Copy copy
Avant performed a program of classical opera, dating from the 1600s to the 1900s, with selections from composers Henry Purcell, Gaetano Donizetti, Francis Poulenc, Franz Schubert, Antonín Dvořák and Aaron Copland.
While at the College of Charleston, Josh had featured roles in numerous performances on campus and was a featured soloist in Piccolo Spoleto’s Youth Artist Series in 2014 and 2015. He has performed and toured with the nationally acclaimed College of Charleston Concert Choir, along with performances with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Across his years at the College, he earned honors at state and regional levels of the National Association of Teachers of Singing Student Auditions.
Josh is the son of Janice and Travis Avant of Walterboro. His grandparents are Decky and Amy Avant and Tish Fox.
