The Lady War Hawks defeated Jefferson Davis Academy 21-5 on Tuesday March 22 on the road. Elizabeth Anne Dean and Haley Wilson combined for the win for Colleton Prep.
Dean helped her own cause going 3-5 at the plate. Ally Knight and Lexie Murray were 2-4, while Summer Gerard went 2-2. Patricia Utsey was 1-1 in the game.
“We played solid defense against JDA,” said Coach Mallory Crawford. “We put the ball in play very well and forced them to make some errors on defense. It was a good region win for us.”
Colleton Prep would not have the same good fortune against region rival Dorchester Academy later in the week. The Lady Hawks would take a 7-4 loss against the Raiders on their home turf. Knight and Anne Garrett Carter combined for the loss.
Penelope Tuten led CPA at the plate, going 3-4 on the day. Haley Wilson hit her first career homerun in a two-run shot, and was 2-3 on the day. Knight was 2-4.
“We had 12 pop-ups at the plate and seven errors on defense,” admitted Crawford. “We can’t win a ballgame that way. Dorchester has definitely improved since last season. We need to do better adjusting at the plate. We didn’t come ready to play and we need to work harder. We are going to focus on better pitch selection when we return from spring break.”
The junior varsity won against Jefferson Davis 6-5.
The Lady Hawks are sitting at 8-5 overall and 3-1 in region play. They will face Holly Hill Academy on Tuesday April 5 (away) and host Thomas Heyward on Thursday April 7.
