The Colleton County JV baseball team got off to a 2-0 start on its season following wins against Woodland and Wade Hampton.
On Thursday March 3, the JV Cougars used five pitchers enroute to an 11-1 win and no-hitter for Colleton County versus Woodland.
Jackson Morelli, Chase Hadwin, Ethan Bryan, Alan Grym and Austin Barwick notched 18 strikeouts in the no-no. Bryan held Woodland hitless across two innings of work, allowing no earned runs, one walk and accounted for four of the strikeouts. Hadwin recorded six outs to aid the victory.
At the plate, the JV Cougars had seven hits, including three for extra bases. Conner Morris went a perfect 2-2 at the dish for Colleton County with a double in the fourth inning and a single in the sixth. Trey Nettles, Grym, Morelli, Tristen Hiott and Shykem Chisolm each had a hit apiece.
Colleton County defeated Wade Hampton 5-1 on Wednesday March 9 in its first home game of the season. The Cougars scored five runs on two hits in the contest.
Hadwin and Bryan combined on the mound in a no-hitter with 11 total strikeouts. Hadwin held the Red Devils hitless over five innings of work, allowing no earned runs and accounting for seven of the strikeouts. Bryan pitched five innings, collecting four strikeouts and allowing one earned run.
The Cougars scored four runs in the first inning, partly thanks to a two-run double by Bryan which grabbed the early lead. Allan Grym had the only other hit of the game.
The JV Cougars will begin region play against Summerville this week.
