Skylar Chambers pitched two complete games this past week as the Lady Cougar Varsity Softball team won two games beating Hilton Head 13-0 and James Island 5-1.
Chambers’ no-hitter against Hilton Head (1-7) on Thursday March 24 was the highlight of the week. She pitched five solid innings, facing only 18 batters.
Meanwhile, the Cougar bats came to life with hits throughout the lineup. “This was a complete game by our team,” said Coach Amber Gantt. “We were very solid in all aspects of the game. Offensively, we had our best night of the year, while we were solid on defense, committing only one error. Our pitching was outstanding. This was the highlight of the week and could not have come at a better time.”
Leading the Lady Cougars at the plate was Sarah Way, who was 4-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Hallie Robertson contributed three hits with an RBI, while Courtney Morris, Katelyn Barwick, and Jamoni Sanders each had two hits. Chambers had one strike-out in the game and allowed two walks.
On Tuesday March 22, Colleton County earned its first win of the season against James Island (0-3) in a 5-1 contest. “We finally got the monkey off our back with this win,” said Gantt. “Skylar pitched really well and we finally had some timely hits that we have been missing all year.”
Chambers scattered eight hits through seven innings, striking out two. She allowed one walk. Offensively, Way and Brittany Risher led the way with two hits apiece. Robertson (2 RBIs), Jessica McDowell and Kayla Christopher each had a hit in the contest.
The Lady Cougars are now 2-6 overall and 0-2 in region play. “These wins couldn’t have come at a better time, as most of our remaining games are conference games,” admitted Gantt. “Hopefully, these two wins will lead to us playing up to our potential the rest of the year.”
