SERVING THE PUBLIC. Travelers Rest Police Department Chief Lance Crowe traveled to Walterboro Thursday to bring his insights into serving the public to the members of the city’s police and fire departments. Crowe, who has been with the Travelers Rest Police Department since 2005 and became its chief in 2006, believes that law enforcement agencies can learn how to deal with people by examining how other businesses address customer service. The differences between providing law enforcement and providing goods and services are easily recognizable but, he said, there are also similarities in serving the public that can be put into practice. By learning to recognize and adopt the service philosophies of leading companies in the civilian world, he said, participants will gain valuable insight into how their law enforcement agency can attain the “holy grail” of all community policing initiatives: a strong and effective partnership with the community it has pledged to serve.
