A Jan. 4 crash on Bells Highway claimed its second victim last week.
Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey reports that Rose G. Berry, 88, of Walterboro, died at a local nursing home from injuries she sustained in the crash in the 700 block of Bells Highway.
Rose Berry was a passenger in the vehicle driven by George Berry, 61, of Walterboro. George Berry died at the emergency department of Colleton Medical Center on Jan. 4 of injuries sustained in the accident.
Rose Berry was taken to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center for treatment of her injuries and then transferred to the nursing home.
The accident report filed by the Walterboro Police Department stated George Berry pulled onto the roadway and his vehicle was hit by a van.
Harvey said Rose Berry’s cause of death has been listed as multiple trauma.
Police hear gun shots
A member of the Walterboro Police Department was patrolling on Black Street Sunday shortly after 3 a.m. when he heard a series of five shots that appeared to come from the Lincoln Apartment area on Witsell Street.
As the officer drove to the area, he checked with dispatchers, who reported receiving three different shots-fired calls from residents of the apartment complex.
A search of the area by officers failed to find any suspects.
A deputy was sent to Our Dream Lane on Sunday after a man discovered that someone had taken a work trailer valued at $3,000. The man said he believed the theft had occurred sometime over the weekend.
Members of the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office were called Friday evening after a motorist reported her car was damaged by gunfire.
The woman told deputies that she had been driving on Proctor Street Friday evening when she stopped at a stop sign.
While stopped, she said she heard three gunshots, one of the rounds breaking the rear passenger-side window of her car.
